Eye Contact

by Pepper Powell

I drew a picture of my own retina, using a photograph from my old job. The optic nerve (left) channels blood and nervous impulses from the retina to the brain. Each eye has a blind spot at its optic nerve, but the brain is trained not to notice it. In the center of vision is the macula, the focal point of sight and the center of the retina.
If you look at the center of the picture, both your maculas are pointing directly at my macula. Getting to know people is what I love about medicine, so I wanted my piece to represent that.
